What's New for January 2006
CPP database LAUNCHED!

We are pleased to announce that the CPP database is now up and running. Click here or go direct to the ‘CPP database’ tab – Introduction, Project summaries and Virtual library.

You will notice other changes to the site. ‘Current projects’ section no longer exists – and annual reports are now included under ‘CPP outputs’ along with updated highlights and leaflets, and new entries for ‘Impact timelines’ and ‘Lessons learnt’.

 
What's New for December 2005
Biological control in Ghana and West Africa

Building on the successful development of separate registration procedures for biological control agents of pests in Kenya, a CPP project led by the Natural Resources Institute has replicated the success in Ghana. Click on CPP news to read about this exciting development.

‘Research for results’

The Keynote speaker at the recent Pathways out of Poverty Conference, Dr Faustin Mwape, Agricultural Adviser of the NEPAD Secretariat, gives his ‘Perspective’ on ‘Research for results’ in the latest edition of New Agriculture. See more on our Communications page.

 
Coming soon – new CPP database

Our long awaited database is due to be launched later this month.

Providing summaries of project achievements and a virtual library of publications, extension materials and other project outputs, this easy-to-search database will aim to cover CPP projects from the second five years (2000-05) of DFIDs 10-year Renewable Natural Resources Research Strategy.

 
What's New for September 2005
CPP collaborators on BBC World TV

The Real IPM Company, Kenya, has made it to the finals of ‘The World Challenge’, a BBC and Newsweek competition, sponsored by Shell, aimed at finding individuals or groups from around the world who have shown enterprise and innovation at a grass roots level. Pathways out of Poverty 22–23 September 2005, Provisional programme & booking form

This conference is being organised by the Association of Applied Biologists with the Crop Protection Programme (CPP) and the Plant Sciences Research Programme (PSP), and will be held on at Homerton College, Cambridge. It will present examples of the use of a solid scientific foundation to achieve development impact from three of the UK Department for International Development’s Renewable Natural Resources Research Strategy (DFID RNRRS) programmes – CPP, PSP and Livestock Production Programme – over the ten years of DFID’s RNR research strategy. What's New for May 2005
Rice blast disease workshop held in Accra, Ghana – proceedings available shortly

The proceedings of the major international rice blast disease workshop held in Accra, Ghana, 05 March 2003, and hosted by CPP project leader, Dr Sreenivasaprasad (Warwick-HRI) with the Africa Rice Center (WARDA) and Savannah Agricultural Research Institute (SARI) of Ghana, were published late in 2004 and will be available shortly as pdf files via the CPP publications page. Rice Blast in West Africa: Characterisation of pathogen diversity, key screening sites and host resistance will provide an invaluable reference manual for researchers involved in rice blast research and management, particularly where rice intensification is taking place in West Africa.
